Applications Of 3A Molecular Sieve

Products Description

3A zeolite

3A molecular sieve is a synthetic aluminosilicate crystal, a type of A molecular sieve. The "3A" in its name represents its effective pore size of approximately 3 angstroms. Appearing as pale yellow spherical or strip-shaped particles, 3A molecular sieves possess a hard structure and excellent mechanical strength, making it resistant to breakage and adaptable to various operating environments in industrial production. Its internal structure features a regularly ordered microporous structure, interconnected by these pores to create a large specific surface area, providing ample space for adsorption.

Advantages of 3A Molecular Sieve

3A zeolite molecular sieve has a strong selective adsorption capacity. Its pore size is approximately 3 angstroms, allowing only molecules with diameters smaller than 3 angstroms to enter and be adsorbed, while molecules with diameters larger than 3 angstroms are blocked. Despite its small pore size, the microporous structure of zeolite 3A provides a large specific surface area and a high adsorption capacity. For example, the static water adsorption value of PM 3A molecular sieve can reach 21%. It also features excellent thermal stability, stable performance at high temperatures, easy regeneration, strong chemical stability, acid and alkali resistance, and a long service life, making it reliable in complex industrial environments.

Applications of 3A Molecular Sieve

Natural Gas Drying

Natural gas typically contains a certain amount of water. This water can form hydrates during pipeline transportation, clogging pipelines and exacerbating pipeline corrosion. 3A molecular sieve desiccant efficiently adsorbs water from natural gas. Its 3Å pore size allows water molecules to enter and be adsorbed, while major components of natural gas, such as methane and ethane, cannot enter the micropores due to their diameters larger than 3Å. This allows for deep dehydration of natural gas. After treatment with 3A molecular sieve adsorbent, the water content of natural gas can be reduced to extremely low levels, meeting the requirements of pipeline transportation and subsequent processing, ensuring the safe and stable operation of natural gas transportation systems.

Dehydration of Ethanol to Anhydrous Ethanol

In ethanol production, producing anhydrous ethanol (water content less than 0.5%) is difficult to achieve using simple distillation methods because ethanol and water form an azeotrope. 3A zeolite molecular sieve can be used as an adsorbent in the ethanol dehydration process. It absorbs water molecules from ethanol but not ethanol. When water-containing ethanol is passed through an adsorption tower filled with 3A molecular sieve beads, the water molecules are adsorbed, and the outflow is anhydrous ethanol. Once saturated with adsorption, the 3A molecular sieve can be regenerated by heating and reused. This method is simple to operate and energy-efficient, making it an important means for the industrial production of anhydrous ethanol.

Dehydration and Purification in the Petrochemical Industry

In the petrochemical industry, many raw materials and products require dehydration and purification to ensure smooth production and product quality. For example, during the storage and transportation of chemical raw materials such as olefins and aromatics, 3A molecular sieve zeolite can be used to remove moisture, preventing moisture-induced deterioration and other adverse effects. In some chemical reactions, the presence of moisture can affect the reaction rate and product purity. 3A molecular sieves provide a dry environment for the reaction system, ensuring smooth reaction progress.
